DENTAL IMPLANTS
In today’s world, crowns and bridges made on dental implants should look and feel like your own teeth. Dental implants are a routine part of modern dentistry – no longer considered “experimental” or even “new.” The have revolutionized dentistry, and now they are tried and true.
Studies have found that the success rate for today’s dental implants is as high as 98 percent, with no or little discernable bone loss.
In the hands of a properly trained and skilled specialized dentist they are a safe, predictable and most often preferred alternative to old-fashioned bridges and dentures.
Placed in your jawbone, the implant (a titanium screw post) replaces the root of the missing tooth and fuses with the bone in a process called “osseointegration.” The implant is then fitted with a replacement tooth. Multiple implants can also be used to support a permanent bridge (replacing several missing teeth) which is cemented or screwed into the implants.
Today’s implants are not susceptible to tooth decay and far less susceptible to periodontal disease – the processes that cause breakdown and loss of natural teeth. They are considered permanent – and in most cases can last a lifetime.
In traditional fixed bridges, the teeth adjacent to a missing tooth were ground down and covered with crowns in order to support the false tooth (pontic) in between them. A dental implant used to replace a missing tooth is a more conservative, less invasive, more durable and more natural and comfortable alternative.
With a single-tooth implant replacement, your own teeth remain completely untouched and unharmed.
And there is good news for denture wearers; even complete dentures can now be supported by implants in what is called an overdenture. The advantage of an implant-supported overdenture is that it is completely stable, with no slipping, no rocking and no falling out. Speaking and chewing are unaffected.
With an implant-supported denture or fixed bridge, there is no longer any need to use adhesives or to be concerned about teeth that move.

IMMEDIATE IMPLANT PLACEMENT
When the treatment plan of a patient dictates the extraction of one or more teeth, in more than 90% of the cases, we perform the placement of the dental implant immediately after the extraction, without waiting for 3-4 months,as this is a protocol that belongs in the past (and only in specific cases we choose to wait). With this advanced approach in our clinic, the total treatment time is greatly reduced and the patient has teeth on the implants 3-4 months earlier, having his aesthetics and function restored. Furthermore, the whole treatment is completed in less surgical sessions, as the extractions of teeth and the implant placements are performed simultaneously, and not in separate appointments.
And when the demands of the treatment plan are such, the immediate placement of the implants is combined with the immediate placement of provisional (temporary) teeth on the implants (see Immediate Loading of Implants). The result is always therapy that reaches excellence in quality and aesthetics, with the minimum time and without discomfort for the patient.
IMMEDIATE LOADING OF IMPLANTS
Every option that modern Implantology has to offer is being used by the doctors of our clinic, who provide implant treatment that totally meets the needs of their patients, even in the most advanced cases, being based on solid scientific knowledge combined with decades of clinical experience.
From the case of a single implant in the aesthetic zone (the area of the mouth that is exposed when the patient talks, smiles etc.) to the cases that demand complete restoration with multiple implants, the goal of the doctors and patients is common. Beautiful teeth immediately placed on the newly placed implants, without waiting the usual 2-3 months that is required for the integration of the implants, a very inconvenient option for the patient, who would have an empty space (or more) in his smile or would need a removable denture (partial or complete). Practically this means, that after the placement of the implant (or implants), which could have been placed immediately after the tooth extraction (see Immediate Implant Placement), the fabrication and placement of a provisional (temporary) tooth follows, which is fixed on the implant usually the same day or within 1-2 days after the implant placement.
With the use of specialized implants and a very strict clinical protocol, the immediate restoration of the patient’s aesthetics and function is achieved predictably, and most importantly without discomfort for the patient. In this way, we provide each time top quality implant treatment, even in the most complex cases.
FLAPLESS IMPLANT PLACEMENT
The doctors in our clinic select always the most painless and atraumatic techniques for the treatment of their patients.
In cases that require dental implants, when there are not specific anatomic limitations, the implants are placed with the minimally invasive flapless technique. According to the protocol of this technique, the placement of the implant takes place without performing incisions and subsequently sutures (stitches). In this way, the postoperative symptoms are minimized even more (virtually the chances of experiencing even the slightest pain, swelling, hematoma etc. are greatly reduced).
Furthermore, flapless surgery leads to the fastest healing of the area, while the periimplant bone loss is also significantly reduced.
The final result: the patients receive dental implants in the fastest, completely painless and atraumatic way. The execution of this technique requires significant surgical experience, as well as technologically developed equipment (digital 3D Dental Scan and software for the 3D analysis of the radiographic data).
DENTURES ON IMPLANTS (OVERDENTURES)
Dental implants can now be used to support removable dentures.
Denture wearers have long suffered the embarrassment, pain and inconvenience of loose or ill-fitting dentures. Some patients who have been without their own natural teeth for many years have had changes in the jaw bones that make it impossible to have dentures that can stay in the mouth with any security. This is especially true for the lower jaw.
Today, it is considered the standard of care to have at least two dental implants inserted into the jawbone in order to support a denture. (See fig.’s 1 and 2) This is called an Implant-Supported Over-Denture. The implants are placed into the jawbone and then snap-like anchors are inserted into the implants and into the denture. Once attached, the denture snaps firmly into place in the mouth but can still be removed by the patient for cleaning.
This technique has truly changed people’s lives. Research has proven that denture patients who have had implants added in order to support their dentures are much more likely to be well nourished and far more apt to be socially active.
Confidence levels soar and emotional health is restored by this simple and relatively inexpensive procedure.
