Why do we place dental implants only with computer surgical navigation?

There are many details that ultimately define the outcome and overall quality of dental implant treatment, from a single implant to a complete full-mouth implant rehabilitation.

Modern Implant Dentistry is an extensive and demanding scientific field, and there are many occasions when even the most skilled and experienced implantologists are unable to process all these details during surgical implant placement. This is one of the main reasons for the long-term problems and failures of implant treatment, which may begin to appear 5 to 7 years after the actual implant placement and are, in most cases, difficult to link to an initially less-than-ideal surgical procedure.

Every modern implantologist needs to remain constantly updated and trained in the latest developments of this rapidly evolving field, while also utilizing every available tool and technique in order to address each clinical challenge in a predictable way.

Surgical implant placement is, in fact, highly demanding. Every implant must be placed in a precise position and depth, with the correct inclination, while avoiding adjacent sensitive anatomical structures (teeth, nerves, arteries, etc.) and thus achieving a long-term successful functional, biological, and aesthetic result for the patient.

This is where the technological developments of recent decades come into play. The use of modern digital devices (CBCT scanners, intraoral scanners, facial scanners, etc.), together with advanced software applications, gives us the opportunity to plan every small and large detail of each implant case and ultimately produce a unique surgical guide of utmost precision for the placement of one or multiple implants.

The advantages are many and extremely important. In simple terms, digital navigation and the use of a surgical guide allow us to place implants with absolute precision, much faster than with conventional “free-hand” surgery, and with minimal surgical trauma — meaning a far more comfortable and symptom-free surgical experience for the patient.

Our clinic is a pioneer in the use and development of these digital workflows for Implant Surgery and Prosthetics. For more than a decade, we have used computer navigation for the treatment of even the most complicated and demanding clinical situations, providing our patients with implant restorations of unparalleled quality in the most atraumatic way possible.

Beyond the digital management of our clinic’s implant cases, Dr. Andreas Barbetseas is actively involved in teaching and guiding dentists from Greece and abroad in the use of this groundbreaking technology.
